Not your daddies board shorts

May 18th, 2012,

Got tons of new gear in and boy, we couldn't be any more excited! We have been getting hammered, like we usually do this time of year with all of our summer apparel and gear. Our guys are working overtime to receive, sort and put online all of our new swag. Last week was the fun stuff, O'Brien watersports. We have received hundreds of over sized boxes stuffed with everything you'll need for enjoyment on the water this summer. With sweet new graphics and completely new models, O'Brien shows us year after year why they are the watersports powerhouse. We use their products and we believe in their products. Take all of their wakeboards for instance! The O'Brien Valhalla is a tried and true wake board, I personally ride it with the Link wakeboard binding and now on its 6th year, the thing still looks and rides like new. We also offer the new O'Brien Clutch wakeboard pictured below.

For the ladies, you know we've got you covered with the all new re-designed O'Brien Vixen wakeboard.

O'Brien Vixen Wakeboard w/ Vixen Binding 2012 - Women's
Pair it up with the O'Brien Impulse neoprene vest for a hot look this summer! Neoprene is the only way to go with new life jackets. Lighter, softer and safer than your old school, Titanic survivor PFD.

Speaking of PFD's (Personal Flotation Devices), we are excited to bring in the new MTI Adventurewear's life vest and life belts. We have been getting a ton of interest in SUP or Stand Up Paddleboards in the last few years. Obviously.. the sport rocks! Unfortunately, Maine has adopted new regulations on these SUP'ers making it a law that you must wear a life jacket/PFD while on a stand up paddleboard while outside of a deemed 'surfing zone.' Life jackets can be a little clunky so we've found the right solution for you Mr. Stand Up Paddleboarder. The new MTI Fluid Belt Pack. Wear it around you waist while you cruise and when you need it, simply pull the tab and with the included CO2 you vest will easily inflate.

And Kayakers, we didn't forget about you! We're got the paddle-perfect life jacket for you. Check out the MTI Journey SE Paddle Vest!

Ride safe, have fun and always wear a life vest.

Summers in Full Swing

May 14th, 2012,

Summer is right on our doorstep and we're getting ready to serve it up and serve it up FRESH. We've been taking a little time off from real work and doing some real playing. We took a company trip down to Costa Rice for some Central American surf sesh's. We got really lucky with having decent size swell and of course beautiful weather. I don't think I even saw a drop of rain while surfing down in Costa Rica.. other than the beads of sweat that it. Here is a sweet shot taken right on Herradura Beach.

We were also please to find out that we hit the timing right because we stumbled upon a local surf competition which was comprised of some very decent competitors. These guys could seriously rip!

We're going to get back to adding some new products that are pouring in the warehouse doors daily like these sick new Native Sunglasses. My personal favorite has to be the Native Hardtop XP. Designed for larger profile's/faces the Hardtop XP is built with the quality craftsmanship that Native is so well know for as well as their superb polarized lenses that never seam to scratch! Add that to Natives lifetime warranty and the interchangeability of their lenses and its easy to see that once a Native wearer, also a Native wearer.

Goggles, Sunglasses for Winter

August 31st, 2011,

Who loves sunglasses? Aren't they fun!? They are a great way to accessorize yourself during the summer.. like a watch or a sweet belt. For winter, we recommend ditching those shades for a something even more rad, a pair of goggles! Smith Optics has some new offerings for you for Winter 2012. The new Smith ski and snowboard goggles for this winter look fresh to death but thats not the best part! They are cheap! And when we say say cheap we mean in-expensive of course. Certainly, they aren't cheap!

Full Tilt  Fresh Off The Truck!

August 5th, 2011,

New arrivals today are the 2012 Full Tilt Hot Dogger Ski Boot and the 2012 Full Tilt Drop Kick ski boot! Here are some images!

Full Tilt Drop Kick Ski Boots 2012 - Full Tilt Boots     Full Tilt Hot Dogger Ski Boots 2012 - Tom Wallisch

A little crazy looking, right? Yeah we thought so too. So what are these Full Tilt boots? Well for those Newschoolers out there they probably mean the freshest freestyle ski boot or park ski boot you've ever seen. To the old school guys that look like this?

Old School Hot Doggers

These guys and fine bikini clad women are wearing the Full Tilt boots of yesteryear, the Richle Flexon Ski boots. The Richle ski boot was the first 3 piece ski boot and came with a somewhat heat moldable line which tended to 'pack out' or break in with moderate results. The new Intuition liner that comes with these new school 2012 Full Tilt boots is highly moldable and can keep you much warmer on the slopes that those old buckets. Check em out or go try some on at your local ski shop and see what this Full Tilt boot craze is all about for yourself!

Oakley Shades for Women

June 1st, 2011,

Hey folks, how ya been? I'll tell you it's June 1st but it feels like a hot day in August up here in Maine. We've been in quite a spell of nasty weather for the last month or so which means we are due for sunshine and rising mercury. With nice weather it is more important than ever to protect your most treasured bodily items, your eyes.

We just received a huge shipment of sunglasses and had a chance to add as many as we could to be available for purchase on the site. We mainly received all womens Oakley sunglasses. Oakley has predominantly been known as a men's sun glass company however this year they stepped up their game and came out with some hot new models that our lady co-workers have been drooling over for months!

The new shades we received are the new for 2011 Oakley Unfaithful Sunglasses, the Oakley Remedy Sunglasses, and the Oakley Fringe sunglasses. All of these ladies sunglasses are QUALITY shades. They protect your eyes, look stylish, and are very affordable.

Below are the new Oakley Remedy Sunglasses for women. These sun glasses are by far our favorite of the bunch

We're baaaack!

May 6th, 2011,

Ladies and gentleman, it feels great to be back! Where have we been you ask? Traveling, relaxing and enjoying the fruits of our hard work this past winter, that's where! We took a two month long break from the action during the months of March and April to re-tool the site, brainstorm some new ideas and just take it easy for a while. Our time off was perfectly planned with the winter season ending and the summer season just getting going.

Our trip was epic to say the least. We spent time surfing the East Coast of the US on Jacksonville Beach, Florida as well as Melbourne, FL. We headed further south down the Florida coast onto Key Largo and got in some quality time underwater between the snorkeling and scuba diving.

From Florida we headed out to the left cost, Maui, Hawaii to be exact. With Uncle Jon giving us a place to crash we couldn't help but make our way out. We stayed in Lahaina, Hawaii which is on the small island of Maui.

Maui for those of you who are unfamiliar with Hawaii is the ideal surf destination out of all the Hawaiian islands. With so many different surf breaks from Slaughterhouse and Shitty's to the world famous Honalua Bay, Maui has something to offer surfers with various surfing abilities.

That's all for now, we'll be back shortly to fill you in with the rest of the Park 2 Peak surfing adventure.

Also, since we are back in Maine we'll let you check in on the Higgins Beach Surf Camera and see how she's looking on this fabulous Friday!

New GEAR Arrives, When Will it End?!

November 5th, 2010,

The new merchandise for the 2011 ski and snowboard season keeps coming in! We are trying our best to get it up and online to purchase as fast as we can. The new gear that arrived this week are some of our favorites for the upcoming season.

This new merchandise should have arrived to our warehouse months ago however there have been some major hold ups from almost all of our manufacturers. These holdups have affected our Burton clothing, Sessions jackets, Armada gloves and accessories, Transpack boot bags, SWIX wax and acccessories and many more. The reason for their delay? From what we've heard from our reps and the top brass at these companies is the issue with China.

We know that almost all of our gear comes from China and it has been for the last decade or so. The delay has been blamed for the lack of shipping containers, work shortages/strikes (apparently the Chinese have heard that they are the cheapest labor and they're not too happy about it), and the lack of materials. It's pretty evident that some our our products are made in the same factory. For instance, Smith's Twin Tip Audio Systems and Giro's Tune Up Audio system which are both made by Skullcandy came into our warehouse on the exact same day after being delayed two months!?!
The new gear we're excited about? How about the Transpack Boot Bags, a perennial favorite amongst skiers for their ease of use and really just a great value. We're brought in the new Transpack XT1, Transpack Sidekick, Transpack Edge, Edge Junior and many other Transpack bags so check them out.

The Armada Rumble Mitt has come in as well which is one of our favorite ski mittens of the year. It's leather and flash and just downright ballin' factor earn it an A+ rating.

The new Oakley Karn Lite Snow Jacket is also just arriving. This is the same jacket as the Oakley Karn Jacket just a little lighter and more of a shell than a heavy parka.

Staying Warm when the Mercury Dips

October 30, 2010,

We get a lot of questions thrown our way over here at Park 2 Peak. One of the most common questions is how warm will this particular item keep me. Well of course this is a highly debatable question! We are located in Maine so we are no strangers to the cold. Skiing and riding in Maine and the North East in general has a tendency to sift out the weak minded or warm blooded athletes. We not only get frigid temperatures but combining those with the winds at say the top of Sugarloaf and you have yourself some arctic weather. So with that being said, we feel inclined to give the customers our input on whether something will be "warm enough."

Time after time and question after question, we keep reminding the consumers that layering is key. You need to layer properly with the right clothing in order to stay warm. How is this done? 4 words! Under Armour Cold Gear. We picked up the Under Armour line right when they really started to get big. Starting out with just their Base 2.0 and Mock tops, Under Armour found a niche in the industry. Providing warm, high stretch fabrics that are lightweight and wick moisture. Forget that cotton tee or your grandmothers old sweater, this stuff really works.

This year, we have expanded our Under Armour buy and offer many pieces to keep you nice and toasty even at say... the top of Sugarloaf! We brought in the Base 2.0 tops and bottoms for Men, Women, and Youth. We also offer you their signature Hundo tops which are a little beefier and provide even more warmth than the Under Armour Cold Gear Base 2.0. The secret to the Under Armour Hundo Fleece is the waffle weave patterns that wick moisture off of your skin.. magically! Check out all of our Under Armour Clothing if you want to stay warm when its cold outside.

Dakine, the Accessory Leader is IN!

October 26, 2010,

Dakine has just arrived to the warehouse today and that is just something that we are totally excited about! Dakine is just one of those brands that know's whats up. They know because they are rider owned and operated and have the the best athletes in the business using their gear. From Dakine gloves to Dakine beanies, and even their bags and packs...we have a great selection!  From the new Dakine Team Mission Pack (Below)
Dakine Team Mission Tanner Hall Backpack 2011

To the best gift item in the industry, the Dakine Goggle case, we have chosen everything you'll need. Whether you are a backcountry guru or a just a avid frontside skier, Dakine and Park 2 Peak have you covered. Check out all of our new 2011 Dakine clothing and gear!

A REAL Life-Changing Flick

October 17, 2010,

There are millions of movies out there that we have to choose from. We have comedies, horror, sci-fi, drama's, sports movies, and documentary's just to name a few. With such a huge selection it is always difficult to find the perfect movie, one that will have you thinking for not just hours but more like a lifetime. Sure there are the critically acclaimed, Roger and Ebert awarded, and Golden Globe nominated but aren't those just the movies that get all the hype because of 'Who' is featured in the movie more than how the movie affects you?

I bring up this topic because one movie has recently changed my life and the lives of a few close friends of mine. The movie is titled, Surfwise and it was direct by Doug Pray who did a fantastic job portraying the life of a surf family. This surf family is not like any other family on the planet. Headed by the father, Dorian Paskowitz, the movie portrays the life of a traveling family of surfers who's lives are like any others. See, Dorian was born into a successful family and after graduating from Stanford College with a Doctorate he soon became bored with his normal, everyday life and decided to take his life and his families off the grid.

Dorian is a flat out living legend. He married the girl of his dreams, he had 9 beautiful children and decided they would not be like any other family in the world. He brought up all 9 children in the back of a 26' RV traveling the world from Mexico to the United States searching for the best waves and living well under the radar.

Dorian or 'Doc' is not like any other human I've ever seen or heard about. Living on bare necessities with hardly a dollar to his name, he brought up his family with core values that he felt were how the rest of the world should live. He only ate when he was hungry. He only spent when it was absolutely necessity, and he encouraged or forced if you will his children to do the same. With this type of philosophy on life, the avid surfer Doc is more similar to an African native than any college grad. He was strict, avid, bizarre, and just barbaric. The kicker is that it really makes you realize that people don't need all of these 'things.' He and his family ate the same breakfast cereal their entire childhood! What?!

What is special about the Paskowitz's besides their father and their living arrangements are that they are all superior athletes. With 8 boys and 1 girl, all grew up to become some of the best surfers in the world. Well, I guess they should be considering that's all they've ever known but with most of them competing in world championships, they are truly the most recognizable family surfing has ever seen.

So, my recommendation is to go and see this movie. If you have Netflix, you can watch it right from your computer. Watch this movie and watch how much you life instantly changes. You'll laugh, you'll be surprised, and most importantly, you'll be changed forever.

How to stay warm in frigid conditions

October 10, 2010,

At Park 2 Peak we get a lot of phone calls. We get a wide range of calls from shipping status and rates questions to the more technical questions about the various products we sell. The question we seem to hear over and over is the question on how warm a jacket will be. From "I'm traveling to Austria, will the jacket be warm enough" to "Is this jacket going to keep me warm in Lake Tahoe." There of course is no perfect answer for these questions. We can't tell how high your tolerance is for the cold! We can tell you how to stay warm, dry, and have a hassle free day on the mountain. Starting with the proper base layer is the most crucial part of fitting yourself for the chilly winter weather.

The two different base layers we choose to sell are company favorites and have been for years! Under Armour and Hot Chilly's are what we use and suggest to have a great day out there. Having tried just about every different base layer on the market, we have decided these two are leading the pack. Hot Chilly's is synonymous with base layering because they have been making the very best moisture wicking first layers for over 20 years. The La Montana is a perennial favorite and each year gets approved on. The Hot Chillys La Montana is available in Men's, Women's and Youth sizes. With Under Armour joining the scene in just the last few years, they seem to be leapfrogging over the competition at an incredibly high rate. Under Armour is a great story about a college kid stumbling upon some incredible materials and pairing that with a terrific marking plan and you have one strong company. Under Armour with their Base 2.0 seems to be just the right weight. Not too thin, not too bulky, the Under Armour Base 2.0 is perfect.

These two companies are companies that we back and endorse heavily because they are tried and true. We have felt strongly about our choices to carry these brands because our experience tells us so. The question is which company will you choose to wick away the sweat while shredding some serious powder this winter? If you like the modern, more form fitting look of the Under Armour, the Base 2.0 Top and Base 2.0 Bottom are a great choice to keep you warm and dry out there. If you are looking for a slightly heavier, traditional look from a company that has mastered its trade, look to the Hot Chilly's La Montana series for Men, Women, and Children.

Getting ready for a BIG winter

October 7, 2010,

Summer is officially over in Southern Maine! We can simply feel it in the air. The sun is sitting a little lower, the ocean is getting cooler, and the gearheads around the shop are starting to get excited about winter. We've noticed a steady stream of customers coming into the Arlberg simply wanting to touch and feel all the great new clothing and hardgoods we've got in so far. With new additions to the shop like Sun Ice clothing, and Lange Ski Boots, we are excited to see how our new brands work out!

Just yesterday, a gentleman came in looking for a softshell and couldn't wait to tell us that Sugarloaf was getting snow that night! Our soft shell selection isn't what it will be in a few weeks, and although he didn't end up buying anything it was obvious he was there to get his mind thinking about a big winter on the hill.

We have yet to receive any snow down in the city of Portland and it might be a few weeks out, but our staff just can't wait. We've been unpacking our huge shipments of ski clothing, skis, snowboards, and winter wetsuits which just wets our pallets for this upcoming snowy season. The farmers almanac has predicted that Maine will have one of its snowiest years in history and they are never wrong! Time to bust out those powder skis!

Within these boxes of goodies that we have recieved are some absolutely killer styles. We've got in all our Armada Jackets, Obermeyer kids clothing, North Face jackets and pants, Giro helmets, and Smith Helmets and Goggles.

Ok so thats a lot of gear.... so what is our favorites? From Armada we love the new Armada Fuze Shell Jacket for men. It's flashy, blingy, fits great, and just really well made. It's going to be for the freestyle skier but can be war by a snowboarder as well. The metallic sheen will certainly get you some attention on the mountain.

From Obermeyer Sport, the Obermeyer Mekayla girls jacket for teens. It's great color scheme, incomparable warmth and matching ability with the Obermeyer Amelia ski pant make it one of our favorite girls ski jackets.

Keep checking back with the blog and checking out http://www.park2peak.com/ for great pre-season sales on everything snow!

Burton, the leader in boardsports

 October 5, 2010

The new Burton gear is arriving to the warehouse this week and while we've been salivating to see how it looks, we must say we're more than impressed with what we've seen so far. Almost all of our new merchandise is in besides a few random White Collection pieces.

So far we've got in some men's jackets like the new for 2011 AK Cyclic Jacket, Revolver, Launch, 2.5 FIX, Poacher Jacket and Pants and for the greenies out there, the new Arctic Green Mountain Project Snowboarding Jacket. With a wide variety of colors and prices we also have an awesome selection of men's snowboarding pants as well. The perennial favorite, the Burton Cargo Pant is also fresh looking and super comfy.

Burton Launch Jacket - Men's

For women we've received some beautiful new pieces like the 2011 White Collection Man Eater Jacket, and Baby Cakes. We also have some awesome new collections from their signature line with the Delerium and Jet Set Jackets.

Burton Jet Set Jacket - Women's

For Hardgoods we've got in the new Clash, TWC Standard Rocker board, the Burton Blunt and the New Burton CUSTOM Snowboard!! (seen below)

With the winter coming it's always a great choice to go with something that you know is a quality piece of merchandise and we can't stress how much effort Burton puts quality above anything else.

Orage, A Canadian Brand.

October 4, 2010

With the ski season approaching, the leaves falling, and anticipation for a great snowfall, we at Park 2 Peak couldn't be more excited! We have just received the latest shipment from Orage and we are more than impressed. For those of you who don't know about Orage, it's time to get out from that rock you've been living under. Orage is considered the 'North Face' of Canada and is Canada's largest ski clothing manufacturer. They started making high quality merchandise for skiers over 15 years ago and each season we see huge improvements on design and overall quality.

With the recession.. yes I said it, recession still in progress, Orage has taken a small hit. Because Orage makes the highest quality merchandise like Prime 1 Down Insulated ski jackets (crazy warm) and ski pants, they are rather expensive.  Expensive in a recession is never a 'Good' thing so what we did was choose just a few models out of their huge line of clothing. We chose what we thought were the best of the best. The creme of the crop. The hottest and freshest styles of ski jackets for 2011. We selected the heavily marketed styles and the signature series jackets from Team Orage Riders. We chose the super warm, longer fitting 2011 Orage B-Dog show below. The B-Dog Jacket was designed and is warm by Phil 'the B-Dog' Casabon. Phil Casabon is gnarly. His jacket is too!

Orage B-Dog Jacket 2011 Mens

For ladies, we chose one of our favorite pieces of the year, the new 2011 Orage Bala Jacket.

Orage Bala Jacket 2011 Women's

The Bala Jacket is a component jacket or 3 in 1 jacket which means it comes with a separate fleece liner to wear around town or you can simply wear the Bala as a shell. We'll we think we hit the nail on the head this winter and chose some killer new styles. What do you think?

Surfs up, bro!

September 30, 2010

This morning we rallied together some of the staff for a great shred session down at Higgins Beach. Mac, Jon and myself took the Park2Peak RV down to Scarborough for an awesome time in the water. With the water getting chillier it was time to throw on the surf gloves and surf booties if you want to stay warm. Still can get away without wearing a hood but I would only say for another few weeks. Mac was wearing his O'Neill Heat 4/3, Jon in the O'Neill Epic 3/2 Wetsuit which he said kept him nice and toasty. Not bad considering the water was only 60 degrees.

Surfing in Maine is pretty unique. With the water ranging in temperature so much it is difficult to determine which wetsuit to buy. Do you buy a winter wetsuit like the Quiksilver Cypher 654 and a shorty? Or do you get 4/3 mil and wear it all year around knowing your going to be frozen come December when the waves really start to crank. We know one thing, there is no 'perfect' wetsuit!

Helly Hansen Ski Jacket and Clothing are in!

September 29, 2010

Well the new Helly gear is now officially in for this winter and we have some mixed emotions. We had seen a great line of clothing when our buying team previewed the line. We saw some fresh new things from the Norwegian company. New materials, new logoing, and lots of intuitive designs. From the new shiny looking Odin series Isolater jacket to the super soft Propile, new things are happening with this brand. So we're super stoked to get the boxes in and priced until we go to start putting the new 2011 Helly Hansen gear online.

What did we find? Well we see that Helly has a new online shop where they sell all of their new clothing like jackets and Propiles direct to the customer. With no middle man, this is not something new for the larger brands in the ski and snowboard industry. We've seen it with Oakley, Burton, Sessions and The North Face for years!

The New Helly Hansen Isolater Jacket for 2011

Now with Helly Hansen joining the likes we see something that makes the retailer nervous. An inevitable snowball effect where all the struggling manufacturers start selling their products direct to the consumers.

Of course we are not happy about this but our loss is your gain! You the consumer are you to be the ones winning out. We are offering all new 2011 Helly Hansen clothing for cheap. 10% off of retail right now with free shipping! Check out some out the new gear today because these styles aren't going to last at these prices.

This winter is going to be a good one. How do I know? Well besides the fact that we are predicted to get absolutely dumped on by mother nature, we feel that we have some of the freshest new styles to offer our customers. Fresh styles = killer looks. We know that killer looks = skiing. And that skiing = a great time.

Spyder Clothing Review!

September 19, 2010

We decided to talk a little bit about some fresh new styles from the leader in performance ski wear, Spyder. Spyder, race inspired clothing of the highest quality with the best materials is pretty much how we've summed them up. With the new age of skiers looking to rock fresher styles than their parents, Spyder decided to turn the page on typical classic styling and amp it up a bit.

Spyder still of course is still going to offer you the Spyder Leader jacket and Spyder Rival jacket which is great for the classic, New England skier looking to stay warm and look like a pro. Check out the 2011 Rival Jacket below:

Spyder has decided that they need to expand their horizons as a company and has started to open its eyes to the new, expanding, and lets say 'More Fun' aspect of skiing, Freestyle styling. With their new Venom line of clothing, Spyder has offered up some really sick new styles for the park and pipe skier like the new Patsch Hoodie for men:

We also have in a great line of kids Spyder jackets and pants which along with looking great also have the same features and creature comforts as the adult styles. Our pick for Spyder kids clothing is the new 2011 Spyder Armageddon Jacket for boys:
